Description

SCO OpenServer is prone to an overflow condition. The xterm XBase tool fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input resulting in a buffer overflow. This may allow a local attacker to execute arbitrary code with root permissions.

Solution

Currently, there are no known upgrades or patches to correct this vulnerability. It is possible to temporarily work around the flaw by implementing the following workaround: restrict access to xterm. In newer versions, SCO has been reported by the researcher to have patched some holes, but not all.
