Description

A memory corruption flaw exists in I-drop Indicator. The idrop.idrop.2 ActiveX control fails to validate the Src, Background, and PackageXml properties resulting in memory corruption. With a specially crafted website, a context-dependent attacker can cause arbitrary code execution resulting in a loss of integrity.

Solution

Currently, there are no known upgrades or patches to correct this issue. It is possible to correct the flaw by implementing the following workaround: set the kill-bit on the IDrop ActiveX Control (CLSID {21E0CB95-1198-4945-A3D2-4BF804295F78}) or (CLSID: {32290CD1-D585-4803-AF20-F16E20FF377A}). See Microsoft KB article 240797 for more details.

If this control is installed on a 64bit machine (such as Windows 7 64bit) the CLSID is different. For these machines it is CLSID: {32290CD1-D585-4803-AF20-F16E20FF377A}

Additionally, the link provided only works for 32bit IE on a 32bit OS. If this is a typical 32bit IE on a 64bit OS, the location of the killbit entry changes. Refer to the following URL: http://blogs.technet.com/b/srd/archive/2008/02/06/the-kill_2d00_bit-faq_3a00_-part-1-of-3.aspx
