Description

Asterisk contains a flaw that may allow a remote denial of service. The issue is triggered when a skinny packet is received where the claimed length is between 0 and 3 added with 4 or more bytes. This will issue a segfault via a large memcpy() and will result in loss of availability for the service.

Technical

This vulnerability is only present when the chan_skinny module is loaded. If this module is not needed a workaround is to disable it to add "noload => chan_skinny.so" to the file '/etc/asterisk/modules.conf'.

Solution

Upgrade to Asterisk version 1.4.8 or 1.2.22, Asterisk Business Edition B.2.2.1, AsteriskNOW beta7, Asterisk Appliance Developer Kit 0.5.0, s800i Appliance 1.0.2 or higher, as it has been reported to fix this vulnerability. An upgrade is required as there are no known workarounds.
