A remote overflow exists in Sendmail. The "prescan()" function fails to perform proper bounds checking resulting in a buffer overflow. By using an email message with a specially crafted address, an attacker can cause arbitrary code execution resulting in a loss of integrity.

This is a vulnerability in Sendmail versions before 8.12.10 on all platforms. This vulnerability can be exploited by malicious emails, and does not require the vulnerable server to be accessible directly. In addition, non-vulnerable relay servers may pass the malicious email to a vulnerable server.
Solution
Upgrade to version 8.12.10 or higher, as it has been reported to fix this vulnerability. An upgrade is required as there are no known workarounds.
